Sandra Cerny Minton

Professional Experience

Dr. Sandra Minton has been teaching at the college level for over 30 years. From 1975 - 1998, she was Director of Dance at the University of Northern Colorado. During that time, Sandra choreographed many works, and taught classes in a variety of dance subject areas. Her publications include Modern Dance: Body & Mind, Morton Publishing, Denver; Choreography a Basic Approach Using Improvisation, Human Kinetics, Champaign, IL; and Body & Self: Partners in Movement. Sandra was also co-editor of Preventing Dance Injuries: An Interdisciplinary Perspective, AAHPERD/NDA, Reston, VA, and from 1985 - 1987 she was Publications Director for the National Dance Association.

 

Education and Training

Sandra holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in dance from U.C.L.A., and a Ph.D. in the same field from Texas Womans' University. She has studied with many dance professionals including Gladys Balin, Merce Cunningham, Irene Dowd, Jan Erkert, Bill Evans, Lynda Davis, Barbra Dilley, Michael Geiger, Jan Justis, Hannah Kahn, Bella Lewitzky, Carla Maxwell, Kim Robards, Gus Solomons, Jr., Karen Steele and Eddy Talton. Sandra has also taken workshops in arts advocacy, fund raising, arts curricula, mental imagery, Neuro Linguistic Programming and in various forms of mind/body work.

 

Honors

Sandra is listed in Who's Who Among American Teachers, 4th ed., and was twice selected as College Scholar at the University of Northern Colorado. She has received grants for research and for teaching workshops from the Colorado Goals 2000 Project, the JFM Foundation, Denver, and the UNC Research and Publications Board. Recently, Sandra was selected as the NDA Scholar/Artist for 1999.
